A glass tube of 6 mm bore enclosed in an enamelled and lacquered brass case, standing on a finished wooden board with wall-mounting plates. It has open-plate reflectors and nuts and bolts for vertical adjustment. A dual scale graduated 25 to 32 inches and 640 to 810 mm is read by verniers moving on rack and pinion, reading to 0.002 inch and 0.1 mm, enclosed in a glass cylinder. A glass cistern at the lower end of the barometer is fitted with an ivory point to set the mercury level. A thermometer reading −10 to 50°C is mounted on the wooden board.
