Atwood Machine.
The Atwood Machine is used to study motion under gravity using two masses connected by a lightweight cord that runs over a simple pulley, one mass on each side. The apparatus consists of two long metal rods; one rod carries a well-balanced 10 cm pulley mounted at its top on near-frictionless bearings, and the rods join at the other end to give a total working length of 245 cm. A 0–245 cm scale (1 cm divisions) runs from the top of the pulley rod down to the base of the second rod.
The complete set includes an electromagnetic release arrangement, two pairs of masses, loading masses (1 x 1 g, 2 x 2 g, 1 x 4 g), table/ring brackets, wall-mounting clamps and the lightweight cord.
