Civil Engineering Testing Equipment in the Philippines: A Lab-by-Lab Checklist

Government testing labs, universities, and contractors' QC rooms each need a long list of instruments. This page is a checklist of civil engineering testing equipment in the Philippines, sorted by lab, with a one-line note on what each item does. Use it to draft a purchase list or to check a tender specification for gaps.

LabExports manufactures and exports civil testing equipment from India. The lists below show items that are in our online catalog. Items that labs often specify but that are not in the online catalog are grouped in a separate section near the end, so you can ask whether they can be quoted. Prices are quoted on request for each list, by quantity, specification, and delivery port.

Standards come first

Public works specifications from the DPWH commonly cite AASHTO and ASTM test methods, and some university courses also use BS or EN methods. The method sets the size of moulds, rammers, and sieves. So tie each item of civil engineering testing equipment in the Philippines to a named method before you ask for prices.

Cement testing

  • Vicat apparatus for standard consistency and initial and final setting time.
  • Le Chatelier mould and a cement autoclave for soundness and expansion.
  • Blaine air permeability apparatus for fineness.
  • Mortar cube moulds, a humidity cabinet for moist curing, and a specific gravity bottle.

Bitumen and asphalt testing

  • Penetration test apparatus, ring and ball apparatus (softening point), and ductility testing machine for binder grade.
  • Cleveland open cup (flash and fire point) and Pensky-Martens closed cup testers for safe heating limits.
  • Saybolt-type viscometer for flow at set temperatures.
  • Marshall stability test apparatus, a bitumen centrifuge extractor, and an asphalt content tester for mixes.

Aggregate testing

  • Los Angeles abrasion machine and Deval attrition machine for wear.
  • Aggregate impact value test apparatus and aggregate crushing value apparatus for toughness and strength.
  • Sieve sets and flakiness and elongation gauges for grading and shape.
  • Bulk density measures and a specific gravity and water absorption set.

Rock mechanics

  • Core drilling machine for taking rock and concrete cores.
  • Point load index tester for quick strength checks on cores and lumps.

General lab items

Most rooms share a hot air oven, a muffle furnace, a digital balance, a digital caliper, lab thermometers, a magnetic stirrer, a desiccator, a digital pH meter, and a set of laboratory glassware. A universal testing machine serves the steel and structures side.

Surveying, field, and structural testing

  • Total station, dumpy level, auto level, theodolite, GPS set, and laser distance meter.
  • Field density test kit (sand cone and core cutter).
  • Load frame, flexural testing machine, dial gauges for deflection, a concrete crack monitor, and strain gauge sets.

Often specified, but not in our online catalog

These items appear in many Philippine lab lists but are not in our online catalog. Ask whether they can be quoted before you include them in a single order:

  • Concrete: air entrainment meter, curing tank, and mortar penetrometer.
  • Cement and asphalt: cement sampler and film stripping device.
  • Aggregate: shape test caliper.
  • Rock: Hoek-type rock triaxial cell, rock shear machine, porosity and permeability sets, and a core cutting and grinding machine.
  • Field and structures: soil resistivity meter, crack width measuring microscope, and load cell data logging systems.

Humidity, storms, and power

  • Humidity. Steel moulds, sieves, and gauges rust fast in humid air. Store them oiled and dry, and keep balances and electronics in a room with a dehumidifier or air-conditioning.
  • Packing. Ask for moisture-barrier packing and desiccant in each crate. Check glassware and gauges first on arrival.
  • Power. Philippine mains is 220 V at 60 Hz. State this for every electrical item, since motors and timers must match the frequency.
  • Freight. Heavy machines go by sea to Manila or another port near you. Spares can go by air.

What to include in a quote request

  1. The list by lab, with quantities.
  2. The test method for each item (AASHTO, ASTM, or other).
  3. Capacities, readout type, and any data output.
  4. Power supply and the delivery port or city.
  5. Your agency or project reference if the purchase is a public tender.
