This is ideal for clinical laboratories for diagnosis and for school-level study. In this mechanism, samples are run through Whatman filter paper, agar, agarose gel or cellulose-acetate membranes. It can accommodate 6 paper strips horizontally, and the buffer can be saturated quickly in this mechanism. A recessed safety interlock switch breaks the current to both electrodes when the lid of the instrument is lifted. Both electrode sections have a capacity of 550 ml and each is fitted with transverse baffles to limit diffusion of buffer that is in contact with the ends of the paper strip. The polarity of the electrode is indicated by two pilot lamps provided on the front panel. The whole mechanism is fitted with levelling screws for easy levelling. The basic unit comprises an anode and cathode reservoir with platinum electrodes, a special glass lid and a power cord.
