This is a combined mechanism of ultraviolet and white-light sources. The ultraviolet section can be used to examine slab-gel electrophoresis, thin-layer chromatography, DNA and nucleic acids. The white-light section can be used for viewing Coomassie-blue-stained gels, silver-stained protein gels, autoradiographs and microtitre plates. Construction: the outer case is made of thick steel and covered with a thick layer of epoxy-based polyester paint, which gives a strong, highly scratch- and chemical-resistant surface. This mechanism has two windows, one covered with a UV-transparent sheet and the other covered with a white translucent sheet; six 360 nm UV sources and four white-light sources are fixed beneath the windows. An exhaust fan is fitted for cooling, and the hinged eye-protective UV-barrier cover is provided for the UV source and covers both windows.
