The biosafety cabinets are made of thick board, suitably Sunmica-clad, with epoxy-painted interior surfaces for longer life. The worktable is made of heavy-gauge stainless-steel sheet and is fitted with a UV germicidal light, a static-pressure manometer, an exhaust system (suitable for a 6-foot duct) and a contamination burn-out unit. The side panels are made of thick clear Plexiglas, suitably framed. The unit is fitted with a pre-filter and a HEPA filter; air is drawn through the pre-filter and passed through highly effective HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters that retain all airborne particles of 0.3 micron and larger. The height of the worktable gives a comfortable seated working position. The blower-and-motor assembly is statically and dynamically balanced using a dynamic balancing machine, and a 1/4 HP motor runs with minimal noise. The working area is illuminated by fluorescent lighting fitted to the unit.
