Engineering Teaching Lab Apparatus

Forces Suspension Bridge: suspension bridges are among the oldest of all bridge designs; their main supporting element is a flexible cable.

Free-hanging cables and ropes are often used to support a structure, such as stay cables.

Bending Moment Diagram: this consists of a beam mounted on two supports which is subjected to point loads; the beam is cut at one point.

Parabolic Arch: es are popular elements in construction engineering; they can be employed as bridges or beams for example.

Anaerobic Reactor: it does not require more energy as there is no aeration added. Energy can be generated in the form of methane gas.

Deformation of Straight Beam: beams are key structural elements in mechanical engineering and in construction.

Method to Determine the Elastic Line: beams are key structural elements in mechanical engineering and in construction which are subject to deformation under…

Deformation of Bars under Bending or Torsion: bending and torsion are typical loads to which components are subjected; the resultant stresses and…

Deformation of Frames: A frame is a bent beam with rigid corners which creates a so-called structure gauge.

Deformation Curved Axis Beam: in construction engineering, a distinction is made between beams and arches.

Deformation of Trusses: when a component is placed under load it undergoes elastic deformation; this deformation can be calculated by determining elastic…

Hooke's Law Apparatus: hooke’s law describes the elastic behaviour of components where deformation is proportional to the load acting upon them.

Investigation of Simple Stability Problem: buckling is a stability problem which occurs in practice when slim components are subjected to compressive loading.

Demonstration of Euler Buckling: in stability theory, the four cases of Euler buckling represent the elastic flexural buckling of straight bars.

Buckling Behaviour of Bars: in technical mechanics, loss of stability is known as buckling.

Determining Gauge Factor of Strain Gauges: as universal aids to experimental stress and strain analysis, strain gauges enable mechanical strain to be…

Multi Channel Measurement Amplifier: stresses and strains occurring in components are determined in experimental stress and strain analysis by measuring strain.

Photoelasticity can be used to demonstrate distribution of stress and stress concentrations in component models.

Crank and Connecting Rod Apparatus: this experimental unit demonstrates the conversion of smooth rotary motion into reciprocating motion.

Using the four bar chain model, rotary motion is converted into oscillatory motion; an anodised aluminium disc is mounted on ball bearings as a crank.

Hookes Coupling Apparatus: the table model demonstrates the transmission of angular motion to joint shafts, the related gimbal error and how this error can…

Gear Train Apparatus: this apparatus is used to demonstrate belt drives, wheel and disk drives, and gear trains.

Ackermann Steering Demonstrator: the objective of this kinematic model is to explain the special features of the Ackermann steering mechanism.
