This dual universal instrument is for studying a large number of samples of isoenzymes and other heat-sensitive proteins. Platinum electrodes — cathode on top and anode at the base — are mounted at the centre to give a uniform electrical flow. Cold water at a suitable temperature can be circulated in the closed cathode chamber to control the gel temperature. This instrument runs two 16 x 14 cm gels and can analyse up to 26 samples at the same time in 5–6 hours. In this instrument gel can be cast in 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 mm thickness. When samples containing several components are to be studied, this is an ideal mechanism, which gives good results. The basic unit comprises an anode reservoir, a cathode reservoir with heat exchanger, glass plates (notched and rectangular, 2 sets), Teflon combs 13-well (2 nos.) 1 mm, Teflon spacers 1.0 mm (6 nos.), a clamp with screws, a cover and a connecting cord.
